What Do Dental Implants Feel Like?

If you’re considering dental implants, one of your biggest questions might be, “What will they feel like once they’re in?” This is a common concern for people thinking about replacing missing teeth. During the Healing Process

Immediately after implant surgery, it’s normal to feel some mild discomfort, swelling, or sensitivity around the surgical site. Most patients compare this to the soreness they might feel after a tooth extraction. Your dentist will likely recommend pain relievers and a soft-food diet for the first few days. As your mouth heals, you’ll gradually start to feel normal again.

The healing period, called osseointegration, is when the implant fuses with your jawbone. This process can take several weeks to a few months. During this time, you won’t feel the implant “moving” because it’s securely placed. Instead, you may notice some temporary tenderness as your body adjusts.

After you’re fully healed, you should be able to eat your favorite foods — including crunchy or chewy items — without discomfort.
